2015 Wing Malachi Richardson Planning Visits

ROSELLE. N.J. — It’s been an interesting few weeks for Malachi Richardson.

After recently being offered by Indiana, the 6-foot-4 sophomore shooting guard from Roselle Catholic had North Carolina assistant coach Hubert Davis and Georgetown head coach John Thompson III in to see him when he scored nine points as the Lions were routed by national power Montverde (Fla.) Academy, 77-51, Thursday in the Holiday Hoops for Troops event.

Richardson, who originally started out at Trenton Catholic, transferred to Roselle Catholic over the summer after a brief stint at Life Center Academy. Richardson has already drawn early comparisons to Ray Allen as his shooting is stellar, especially from behind the arc. Richardson is a part of a great backcourt at Roselle Catholic as he is teamed up with senior Hakim Saintil and freshman Asante Gist.

Richardson currently holds offers from Indiana, Miami Rutgers, Seton Hall, Ohio State, Kansas, Maryland, and James Madison, while drawing interest from tons of other programs. Syracuse, N.C. State, Florida and Villanova are all programs that have been keeping on eye on Richardson.

Despite the Montverde loss, Richardson was still in high spirits after the game. When discussing North Carolina and what interests him about playing there Richardson said, “It’s all the tradition they have down there.”

Richardson went on to say how he thinks Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams “is a great coach.”

While Richardson is nowhere near close to committing he does plan on seeing a few schools soon saying

“I’m trying to visit Villanova, Indiana and Miami real soon,” he said.

Richardson didn’t give a list of his favorite schools but did go on to say Syracuse and Indiana were “up there” for him.

Richardson also went on to say how his teammates are letting him do his own thing and not putting their two cents in on where Richardson should play, including Syracuse-bound Tyler Roberson.

“Nah,” Richardson said, “he’s not saying anything. He’s letting me do what I want.”
