Syracuse Routs Rutgers as Boeheim Becomes Second-Winningest Coach; Big East Roundup

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim became the second winningest coach in Division 1 history with a 78-53 win over Rutgers at the Carrier Dome. Boeheim passed Bob Knight for his 903rd victory.

Syracuse improved to 12-1 overall, 1-0 Big East, while Rutgers dropped to 9-3, 0-1 in Mike Rice’s return from a three-game suspension.

Elsewhere in the Big East...

D’Angelo Harrison went off for a career-high 36 points, drawing comparisons to Ben Gordon, but Villanova beat St. John’s, 98-86, behind 32 points from Ryan Arcidiacono.

Aaron Cosby went for 24 points and Fuquan Edwin scored the game-winner as Seton Hall won its seventh straight, 73-72, at DePaul.

Providence coach Ed Cooley says Louisville is “the best team in the country” after the No. 4 Cardinals beat the Friars, 80-62.
