NEW YORK — If you went for a beer during the first quarter of the Suns-Knicks game Sunday, you might have missed Rasheed Wallace.
He was, after all, only in the game for 85 seconds before getting ejected with two technical fouls.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that is the quickest Wallace has ever been ejected.
“He’s the only guy in the league that gets technicals for saying, ‘Ball don’t lie!'” joked teammate Carmelo Anthony, who went for a game-best 34 points in the Knicks 106-99 victory.
“He needs to trademark ‘Ball don’t lie!” added Anthony. “I’ll tell you that.”
Wallace, who did not speak with the media, played only 1:25 off the bench before apparently getting upset after fouling Luis Scola. He was called for a first technical by official John Goble, then hit with the second and an automatic ejection after yelling “Ball don’t lie!” — his way of saying the call was wrong — toward Goble after Scola missed the free throw.
It was Wallace’s 30th career ejection, according to STATS, LLC. The temperamental forward has been called for more than 300 techs in his career, leading the league seven times, though he said before the season he was more mellow now after a two-year retirement.
“Sheed came back here and apologized to us and we move on and get ready for Wednesday,” Anthony said.
When asked if Wallace’s reputation might have contributed to the quick boot, teammate Tyson Chandler said with a smile, “I’m sure it played into it.”
FELTON LISTED AS DAY-TO-DAY
Knicks point guard Raymond Felton was listed as day-to-day after undergoing an MRI on his left hand.
The Knicks said he has a “contusion and bone bruise.”
“It’s swollen right now,” Felton said before getting an MRI, according to ESPNNewYork.com. “It’s a lot of pain, but we’ll see what happens.”
Felton said he hoped to be able to play Wednesday in Charlotte.
“If it were up to me, I wouldn’t miss any time,” he said. “But we’re going to get an MRI now so we’ll see what happens.”
Felton went for 27 points, seven assists and no turnovers in the win.
The Knicks are already without point guard Jason Kidd, who has missed four games with back spasms but hopes to return Wednesday in Charlotte.
