Troy Williams to Indiana (UPDATED)

The long and winding recruitment of Troy Williams has come to an end.

As reported on my Twitter earlier Sunday, the 6-foot-6 wing out of Oak Hill (Va.) Academy has committed to Indiana.

“Troy is a freak athlete who can help any team on both ends of the court,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith told SNY.tv. “A high-energy guy who rebounds his position as well as any player in the country. He is continuing to work on his shot and getting stronger in the weight room. He thrives in transition and is a really good passer. That is a skill most people don’t realize he is so good at.”

Williams also considered North Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Ohio State and Louisville. He visited Indiana for Hoosier Hysteria last weekend and enjoyed his visit.

“I think he liked how Coach [Tom] Crean worked him,” Boo Williams, Troy’s legendary uncle, told SNY.tv. “He thought Coach Crean thought he was his guy. They did a great job on the visit.”

Boo said Troy can help Crean play an up-tempo offense and an aggressive, trapping defense.

“I think they’re looking at him at the small forward spot,” Boo said. “They’re probably making sure everybody can run, press, trap. They want to make sure they get enough guys who can help him do that. Troy can help him do that.”

Williams joins committed players Stanford Robinson, Devin Davis, Luke Fischer and Collin Hartman in Tom Crean’s 2013 class.

Boo said Indiana is also in good shape for New Hampton (N.H.) forward Noah Vonleh, who is also considering Ohio State, Georgetown and Syracuse, among others.

“They got a good shot at him,” Boo said. “If Noah goes there, their corners could be as good as anybody.”

As for Troy finally making a decision, Boo said, “I think he was probably glad to have it over with.”
