Rathan-Mayes Announcing Saturday

While many high school basketball players will take visits for Midnight Madness, Xavier Rathan-Mayes will actually make his college choice.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Huntington (W.V.) Prep is expected to announce Saturday at 9 p.m. on CIA Bounce TV for either Florida State, Illinois or UConn.

“Xavier is making his announcement on the 13th back up in Canada,” Huntington coach Rob Fulford told SNY.tv this week.

Rathan-Mayes visited Florida State, the alma mater of his parents, and Illinois, but never tripped to UConn.

Fulford stressed the strong “relationship” FSU has “from his dad playing there,” but added, “You never know.”

Illinois, which recently landed Chicago Simeon point guard Jaylon Tate, has also been working hard.

“Illinois has done a a great job recruiting him just as Florida State has,” Fulford said.

“Illinois has been the most consistent. They’ve been in the most number of times.”

As for UConn, they seem like a very long shot given he never visited.

“I’m not sure where it stands with Connecticut,” Fulford said. “Obviously, the visit didn’t happen.”

As for reports that Andrew Wiggins is leaning toward not reclassifying to 2013, Fulford said only Andrew and his parents know the real story, although they have yet to make any announcement.

“If the source isn’t dad, mom or Andrew, it’s just speculation,” he said.
