Memphis Southwind Duo Johnson, Williams III Making Visits

The Memphis Southwind duo of shooting guard JaJuan Johnson and power forward Johnathan Williams III are both in the midst of a series of official visits.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound Johnson has already visited Miami and heads to Alabama Friday. He trips to Texas Oct. 6 and may also visit Marquette, according to Southwind coach Paul Edwards.

“He likes Miami,” Edwards said. “He’s looking forward to going to Alabama tomorrow and also Texas and then make his mind up.

“Marquette has been involved from a far. They’ve really been in the picture all along. He didn’t talk about them as much as the other three.”

Ranked the No. 20 shooting guard in the Class of 2013 by Rivals, Johnson can fill it up.

“His specialty is making plays, just making baskets,” Edwards said. “That’s what he does, he makes baskets.”

The 6-10 Williams has visited Georgetown, Missouri and Tennessee — which features former Southwind star Jarnell Stokes — and heads to Michigan State Friday.

“Johnathan is about 6-10, 215 pounds,” Edwards said. “He’s a multi-dimensional player, a skilled player. He plays the one, two, three and four.

“He reminds you of a young Lamar Odom.”

It remains unclear when Williams will choose a school.

“This determines my future, so it’s a hard decision,” Williams III told the Commercial Appeal. “I’m just gonna keep praying about it. It’s no telling when God will answer, but I know for sure he will. It might be November or it might be late spring. We’ll just see.”

Added Edwards: “They’re both good kids. We’re just waiting on them and their parents to make a decision.”
