Source: Harrisons, Father Split on Kentucky & Maryland

Andrew and Aaron Harrison have a different opinion than their father on where they should go to college, a Division 1 source close to the recruitment told SNY.tv.

“The boys want to go to Kentucky, the dad wants them to go to Maryland,” the source said. “The dad’s from there. He and [Maryland coach] Mark Turgeon have known each other a long time since Mark’s days at Texas A&M. But the boys want to go to Kentucky.”

The source added: “I think the boys will win out. If they can be first, if nobody will commit to Kentucky first, I think the boys will go to Kentucky. The dad favors his hometown.”

The twins are due to announce for either Kentucky or Maryland Oct. 29. SMU remains an extreme longshot.

They recently cut Baylor and Villanova from their original list of five.

The source said the twins originally wanted to announce before October in part to pre-empt any other recruits from picking Kentucky first.

“They were trying to beat James Young,” the source said. “James is gonna pop here soon.”

Young recently completed home visits with Kentucky, Syracuse, Kansas and Michigan State and may visit Kentucky for Big Blue Madness Oct. 12. He has no other visits set right now.

As we covered in this story, Young’s Godfather recently told SNY.tv that James could coexist with the twins and other elite players.

The source said he also expects Huntington Prep small forward Andrew Wiggins to end up at Kentucky in 2013. Wiggins is supposed to meet soon with his parents to decide whether or not to reclassify from 2014.

“[Kentucky] will get Wiggins, the twins and Marcus Lee or somebody,” the source said. “They’ll get five really good players.”

  • Wow this just got interesting…
Hope he let’s the kids make their own choice even though it’s UK lol.

  • It’s great for Kentucky and its fans of course, but I think it’s a lot more interesting for college basketball in general if they go elsewhere.

I’d actually love to see them go to a crappy school just to see what kind of impact they’d have.

  • i guess this is news to some people. lol

The report, which appeared Saturday on a New York-based recruiting and basketball website and cited an unnamed source, stated that the brothers want to commit to Kentucky but have not done so because he wants them at Maryland.

“That’s just [the reporter of the story] doing his thing. I’d talked to him one time a few months ago and he re-worded what I said and took it all out of context in his article, so I don’t talk to him anymore. Maybe that’s why he had to write something. He makes up things and runs with them for attention,” Harrison said.

  • Wow, that is quite a definitive journalistic smackdown. Unless you can tell us that your source is something other than a wannabe insider or a UK hoops person talking their own book…? Obviously you can’t tell us who it is, but maybe you can tell us what they do or why they would know… otherwise, you’ve lost all credibility on this recruitment…

  • Don’t geek!!

Sounds like Mr. Harrison is mad the “cats” are out of the bag. Lol

Twins, Wiggins, and Randle to UK.

  • Zags, how does it feel to be called out for the fraud that you are? Sincere question here — would you prefer to be a hack and mack money or be a real journalist and inform readers? Please answer honestly … we won’t think less of you.

  • If the twins DID decide to go to maryland….this has Shabazz Muahammed all over it. Kid likes UK but shoe companie$ win out. You know damn well that Under ARmour would be lining the pockets of them.

  • Do you really think that UK hasn’t gotten recruits because of Nike? MD’s recruiting went down for a number of reasons but one of them was switching from Nike to Under Armour, if we benefit from it now then it is long overdue. Also, this article is a joke as Aaron Harrison Sr. responded to it here yesterday http://maryland.247sports.com/Article/Aaron-Harrison-Sr-No-Kentucky-Maryland-Disagreement-With-Twins-92071

  • lol at maryland fans trying to spin this. what do you think their dad is going to say? i mean really.

  • So anything for UK is right and anything for MD is spin? I’m not saying that they end up here I’m just saying that Zagoria is awful.

  • and i’m saying if zagoria had a source that said the twins were in love with maryland instead of uk….um fans wouldnt be crying like babies.

  • Yea, crying like babies, whatever that means. I don’t care about you I just don’t like bad/made up reporting.

  • and how do you know its made up

  • I don’t know but I know that Harrison Sr. said it was.

  • and what do you expect him to say, especially when a maryland fan blog/site calls him?

  • Read the father’s response carefully. He disputes that he wants the twins to go to Maryland. Let’s assume he’s telling the truth.

That’s not a positive for Maryland fans. Further, he does not dispute that his sons want to go to Kentucky, as the source reports. Without commenting directly on what they want, he says only that the decision is not yet final.

It is difficult to interpret this as anything but positive for Kentucky. It sounds as if the twins are at least leaning in that direction. Maryland fans have to hope that the father isn’t telling the truth, that he’s actually trying to pull his sons in the other direction.

  • Bottom line REALLY is that if you don’t like the reporting don’t read the site, there are plenty of others.

  • Although the story turned out to be wrong both UK and MD fans should just take a chill pill and wait because I think the decision will come much sooner than the 29th of Oct. and this is opinion not based on a source of any kind. I think they will announce before the end of the month but whenever they do announce 1 school will be happy and the other disappointed.

  • It looks like the twins are visiting Lexington soon as well as Aaron Gordon. The Harrisons coming is something completely opposite of what Aaron Sr. has been saying for a while now. He has been saying there wouldnt be any more trips to UK and now this, the twins must be having a difficult time making up their minds which I cant tell is good or bad for the CATS. I do think that means that they will be going to Marylands Midnight Madness on the 12th of Oct. although Ihavent heard or seen anything to confirm that.

  • The Twins will not go to kensucky if James Young commit there.

This maybe all the father needs…

    Note-
I do not see Randle going to kensucky.
    And especially not Aaron Gordon.
