Iona’s Machado Realizes ‘Dream’ By Signing With Rockets

Scott Machado went undrafted this past June, but he realized a dream come true Thursday when he signed a three-year deal with the Houston Rockets.
“I found out that they wanted me to fly out to Houston on Monday of this week and Thursday they signed me,” Machado, who led Division 1 in assists, told SNY.tv by phone. “It feels great. It’s a dream come true of course.”The deal is for two years with a team option for a third year. The 6-foot-1 Machado played well on the Rockets’ summer league team, averaging 8.0 points, a team-high 5.6 assists and 2.2 steals in five games. He closed summer league play by leading the Rockets with 20 points and six assists in a 96-88 win over Chicago.

The Rockets have former Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin, who is recovering from knee surgery and Machado said he’s uncertain what his role will be vis-a-vis Lin.

“He’s recovering from knee surgery,” Machado said. “It really depends on how he’s feeling. They really didn’t speak about much of that.”

Machado will report to Houston’s training camp Oct. 1 and said he has been working out continuously since the draft.

“After not getting drafted, I’m still working hard on the game,” he said. “It’s very satisfying. Just everything I’ve been through this summer and throughout my career, it’s very satisfying. All the hard work that’s been put into it. The dedication and just showing how much I really love the game. ”
