Shawn Jackson to Iona

Iona coach Tim Cluess continues to stockpile former junior college players with the addition of 6-foot-9 forward Shawn Jackson, who is currently on campus.

“Shawn is a big, physical post who will be able to defend and rebound his position at Iona,” Northwest Florida coach Steve Forbes, who previously coached Jackson, told SNY.tv.

“He has the ability to score with his back to the basket and has a nice soft touch. Last fall he was very highly recruited.”

Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Mississippi State and Southern Miss all recruited Jackson before he had academic issues in the spring semester.

Iona also recently landed 7-foot California forward Norvel Pelle, a former St. John’s signee. Sources told SNY.tv that Pelle is still awaiting word from the NCAA eligibility center.

The Jackson commitment was first reported by ChicagoHoops.com.
