Karl Towns Adds Kentucky Offer to Growing List

Karl Towns has barely been back at St. Joseph-Metuchen High School for a day, and yet the 6-foot-11 sophomore has already got the whole school talking about his latest news.

Towns was offered a scholarship to Kentucky just days after being offered by Billy Donovan and his Florida staff.

Towns already has a close connection to Kentucky since he was coached by John Calipari and part of his staff this past summer when he played on the Dominican Republic National Team.

“It was a just great feeling,” Towns told SNY.tv. “The whole staff liked what they saw with me with the Dominican team even though they just wanted to see what I can do. Kentucky is definitely a program that can make me the best player I can be.”

Towns now holds offers from Florida, Kentucky, Baylor, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Syracuse, UConn, and N.C State, among others.

Towns recently visited a trio of schools in the Tar Heel State when he took in UNC, N.C State and Duke all in a few days.

Of all the schools Towns looked at in North Carolina it seems like Mark Gottfried and his N.C State staff made the biggest impression on Towns.

“It was really nice,” he said. “N.C State really is impressive. It’s really an upcoming program and I see them being very successful on the basketball court in the coming years.”

Towns currently has no other recruiting trips lined up as he is preparing for the upcoming high school season with St. Joe’s.

Towns mother, Jackie, told Alex Kline last year that her son’s college decision would come during his “second or third year of high school” but the sophomore doesn’t think a decision will happen during that time frame.

“You know I think my mom said that because she was looking out in my best interest and all but in my eyes when I’m ready to commit I’ll know it,” he said. “It might be by the end of the year, it might be during my senior year. Whenever it happens, it happens.”
