Having completed his final official visit to Pittsburgh this week, Dominic Cheek has no timetable for making a decision but will sit down next week his coaches to discuss his options.
“Today [Friday] was our first day of practice so we’ve got to concentrate on St. Anthony right now,” Friars associate head coach Ben Gamble said in a phone interview. “And then maybe sometime late next week we’ll sit down and talk about each of the schools’ strengths, but there is no date set for a decision and no timeframe on an announcement.”
The 6-foot-5 Cheek visited Pitt Tuesday-Thursday and saw the No. 4 Panthers beat Belmont at home on Tuesday.
“He enjoyed it,” Gamble said. “He liked their style. He enjoyed the visit. He said the facilities were really nice.”
Unfortunately, the weather conditions were not ideal.
“I guess it was snowing most of the days he was down there and also I don’t know how much he saw of the city,” Gamble said. “I don’t think a lot of the students were on campus.”
Former St. Anthony guard Travon Woodall is actively recruiting Cheek to Pitt and they spent a good deal of time together.
“He said he saw Travon a lot during the two days,” Gamble said.

Woodall and fellow freshman guard Ashton Gibbs (pictured) both opted to join the Panthers for this year; Tyrell Biggs of Don Bosco Prep is a senior; former Seton Hall Prep star Brandin Knight is an assistant under Jamie Dixon; and St. Benedict’s star Lamar Patterson will join the Panthers next year.
Pitt was the last of Cheek’s official visits. He has also been to Kansas, Villanova, Memphis and Rutgers. He went through the early signing period without committing, and must wait until April to sign.
“We got all the school visits out the way,” Gamble said. “He already knows what to expect of any school that he picks because he made all his visits. But we want to worry about St. Anthony right now.”
The Friars are the defending New Jersey Tournament of Champions winner and are the reigning mythical national high school champs.
