Robert Hubbs Impressed Coach K Can Recruit & Coach Team USA At Same Time

NEW YORK — Count Robert Hubbs among those impressed with Coach K’s ability to recruit and coach Team USA at the same time.

“Yes, he texted me [Thursday], said they had two more wins to go to get the gold and I said good luck to him,” the 6-foot-5 Hubbs, a shooting guard out of Dyer County (Tenn.), told SNY.tv in the above video interview Friday at the Gauchos Gym in anticipation of Saturday’s Big Strick Classic.

Asked what he thought about the Duke coach’s ability to multitask while in London leading Team USA, Hubbs said, “Yes, it’s real amazing.”

Hubbs hopes to visit Duke at some point.

“I want to go up there but I really have no dates yet,” he said.

Numerous other schools are involved with Hubbs, including Oklahoma State, Gonzaga, Mississippi State, Missouri, Memphis and Vanderbilt but two that stand out now are Tennessee and Auburn.

“[Tennessee coach] Cuonzo Martin, he’s come to really all my games,” Hubbs said. “He’s there, he tells me he’s going to be there every game to watch me play.”

Auburn also has a connection, as reported by CBSSports.com, in that it hired former Missouri assistant coach Ryan Miller, the cousin of Hubbs’s AAU coach with M33M, Ernie Kupyer. Miller is the younger brother of Miami Heat guard Mike Miller.

“Auburn’s a good school. I look forward to going up there and visiting again and just getting a feel for it,” Hubbs said.

Hubbs will play Saturday on the USA team that also features the Harrison Twins.

“I’m just going out there to have fun, play against the New York City guys, hopefully get a win out there, have fun and put on a show for the fans,” he said.
