Al Freeman Thinks Williams, Barber Will Package

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — For what it’s worth, Al Freeman thinks his Boo Williams teammates, Troy Williams and Anthony “Cat” Barber” will end up together at the same school next year.

That could spell good news for Louisville or Alabama and bad news for Kansas.

That, in turn, is ironic because Freeman is considering Kansas among his Top 5 and could end up with Barber on the Jayhawks.

“Me personally, I think they [Williams and Barber] end up going together,” Freeman, a 6-4 combo guard, said after scoring 17 points to help Boo Williams beat the Playaz, 79-68, at the Peach Jam.

Troy Williams led all scorers with 25 points and 11 boards and Barber added 13 points and 6 assists. Among the coaches on hand were Kansas coaches Bill Self and Joe Dooley, Alabama coach Anthony Grant, North Carolina coach Roy Williams, Xavier coach Chris Mack, Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard, Arizona assistant Book Richardson and others.

“Their friendship on the court and off the court is great and they’ve been together for so many years,” Freeman said of Troy Williams and Barber. “And you got two guys that live in the same area, they play on the same team, they’re best friends on the court and off the court, it’s hard to separate them.”

Barber has talked about potentially playing with Williams at Louisville or Alabama, but he’s also considering Kansas.

“A whole lotta people think that [we will package], a whole lotta people don’t, so whatever we decide then that’s what’s going to happen,” Barber said.

Freeman, who transferred to Findlay Prep from his school in North Carolina, says his top five is Kansas, UCLA, Villanova, Duke and Ohio State.

“Oh, definitely I plan on taking visits to all five as long as a position hasn’t been filled yet,” he said.

And what about teaming with Barber?

“Oh man, I would love to play with Cat,” Freeman said. “Me and Cat play well together when we’re both getting in the lane and we’re both driving and dishing and we play well.

“If me and Cat wanted to go to Kansas together, then that would be great but I’m just trying to make  decisions for myself.”
