Report: Davis Will Report to Team USA Training Camp

Anthony Davis will report to Team USA training camp in Las Vegas on Wednesday, according to a Tweet from Adrian Wojnarowksi of Yahoo! Sports.

“The injury isn’t as bad as originally thought,” a source told Woj. “(Davis) really wants to play.”

The No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft out of Kentucky, Davis sprained his ankle during a workout with the New Orleans Hornets and was originally thought to be out for the London Olympics.

But Team USA is desperate for big men due to the absences of Lamar Odom, Chris Bosh, Lamarcus Aldridge and Dwight Howard.

Knicks center Tyson Chandler is the only other player over 6-10 on the roster after Odom withdrew Tuesday.

“Lamar has told us that he is unable to play for the United States this summer,” USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo said. “While it is unfortunate to have lost the players we have, Coach [Mike] Krzyzewski and I remain extremely confident with the group of players we’ll have at our training camp in Las Vegas. We believe that we will still have an outstanding collection of talent and that ultimately we will have another team that all Americans will be excited about and proud of.”

When the team gathers this week in Las Vegas and then heads to Washington, D.C., July 13, it will include Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams, who on Tuesday Tweeted that he would remain with the team.

Reports have him signing a five-year, $100-million deal to stay in Brooklyn on a team that also includes Gerald Wallace and Joe Johnson.
