Russell to Visit Cincy, Kentucky

D’Angelo Russell, a 6-foot-4 2014 shooting guard from Montverde (Fla.) Academy, will visit Cincinnati tomorrow (Thursday) and Kentucky next week.

“Yes, sir,” Russell, a Louisville native, told SNY.tv Thursday by phone after the news was previously reported by Scout.com. “I’m going up there [to Cincinnati] early tomorrow and then I’m coming back probably later in the day.”

Russell confessed he doesn’t know much about Cincinnati yet.

“I really never watched Cincinnati so I can’t really tell you about them,” he said.

As for Kentucky, he said assistant Kenny Payne will set up a date with his father for a visit.

“It’s an honor to have any school show interest,” he said. “I know Coach Cal and their reputation.”

Asked who was showing him the most interest of late, Russell said, “I would probably say Indiana, Ohio State, Missouri, Louisville and Virginia.”

“He’s really played well this summer and he’s being recruited by a lot of people,” Montverde coach  Kevin Boyle told SNY.tv.

“I think what a lot of people like with him is he’s versatile where he’s a two that can play the one, or he’s a one that can play the two,” Boyle added. “Not a lot of guys can naturally play the one or the two at 6-4, 6-4.”

Russell will pair with Florida-bound point guard Kasey Hill on a dangerous Montverde  team that also includes 2014 big man Dakari Johnson, who made the final 12-man cut for the USA U17 team.

“We shouldn’t lose a game,” Russell said. “Long as I’m on the court.”
