Memphis Still on Cheek’s List

Dominic Cheek says Memphis is still on his list and had not been eliminated because Xavier Henry signed with the school last week.

“Memphis is not off the list,” Cheek wrote in a text message. “It’s never been off the list.”

Added St. Anthony associate head coach Ben Gamble: “He told me that yesterday, so they’re back on.”

Gamble had initially told me after Henry signed with Memphis on Wednesday that Memphis had been “eliminated” from Cheek’s list.

A 6-foot-5 wing from St. Anthony in Jersey City, Cheek is still considering Kansas, Villanova, Memphis, Rutgers and Pittsburgh.

“It’s still the same five and he’s going to Pittsburgh Tuesday,” Gamble said Saturday.

He has already taken officials to Kansas, Villanova and Memphis.

Cheek is currently taking his official to Rutgers, where he watched former teammate Mike Rosario drop a career-high 27 points on Robert Morris in Friday night’s 69-55 victory at the RAC. He will remain at Rutgers through Sunday’s game with St. Bonaventure.

The crowd at the RAC chanted “We want Dom…” throughout the game, according to The Star-Ledger.

Make that five schools who really want Cheek.

With Henry having committed to Memphis, Kansas desperately needs a wing in the Class of 2009.

Villanova has long been a suitor for Cheek, with many considering them a favorite.

Cheek has former St. Anthony teammates at Kansas (Tyshawn Taylor), Pitt (Travon Woodall) and Rutgers (Rosario).

The NCAA early signing period ended Nov. 19, but Gamble said: “He could decide at any time.”
