Rutgers Carroll Receives Medical Redshirt, Will Transfer

Rutgers sophomore guard Austin Carroll has received a medical redshirt and plans to transfer, his father confirmed to SNY.tv.

Carroll will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next stop after recovering from meniscus surgery his freshman year at Rutgers and being limited to 10 games last year.

“He just got a medical redshirt so now he is looking for a school,” John Carroll, Austin’s father, told SNY.tv.

Rhode Island, Loyola (Md.), Towson, Loyola Marymount, American and Penn are among the schools interested, his father said.

There is an “excellent chance” he would get a waiver to play immediately wherever he lands, a source told SNY.tv.

Carroll is the second player to transfer from Rutgers this off-season, following sophomore forward Gillie Biruta, who landed with his former St. Benedict’s Prep coach Dan Hurley at Rhode Island.

The news was first reported by CBSSports.com.
