Hofstra has landed a late commitment from 2012 point guard Kentrell Washington of Las Vegas Clark High School.
The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Washington also held offers from Hartford and Eastern Washington.
“I chose Hofstra because I feel it was the best fit for me and I felt it was going to be a place that I can excel at,” he said by text. “They made me feel welcome.”
Chad Beeten, Washington’s high school coach, said Hofstra coach Mo Cassara was getting a “savvy” guard who averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds last season.
“He is a big, long athletic point guard that can play and defend any perimeter position,” Beeten said. “He is tough and well-demeanored. Offensively, his best attribute is unselfishness and being able to create his shot after a couple of dribbles.”
Said Washington: “I have a high basketball IQ and will make my teammates better.”
Washington joins St. Anthony forward Jimmy Hall, Seton Hall Prep point guard Dallas Anglin and Hamden Hall (Conn.) power forward Darren Payen in Hofstra’s 2012 class.
