Devonta Pollard to Alabama

After waiting past the NCAA late signing period, 6-foot-8 forward Devonta Pollard pulled the trigger for Alabama on Friday.

The McDonald’s All-American chose the Crimson Tide over Georgetown, Missouri and Texas.

“They’re going to see a player with high energy all four quarters,” Pollard told Al.com after making his announcement at Kemper County (Miss.) High School gym. “They’re going to see a player that’s going to get up and down the floor and block shots and rebound.

“They’re going to get highlights. They’re just going to see a player that loves to play the game of basketball and hates to lose. I always want to win.”

Pollard said he plans to enroll in summer school at Alabama, which starts in early July.

Pollard averaged 23.8 points, 15.7 rebounds and 5.1 blocked shots last season as he led Kemper County to the state Class 3A championship.

Pollard is the reigning Mr. Basketball in Mississippi and the Gatorade Mississippi Player of the Year.
