Ryan Swanson on Cliff Dixon

Hutchinson Community College coach Ryan Swanson says Seton Hall has picked up a quality big man in Cliff Dixon.

The 6-foot-10 Dixon verbally committed to the Pirates, becoming their first recruit in the Class of 2009.

“Cliff is a very long and skilled power forward,” Swanson said via email. “He has a tremendous upside as his biggest drawback right now is his strength level which can be improved by the time he plays for Seton Hall. He was being recruited by a lot of Big 12 and Big East schools.”

The half-brother of Kevin Durant, the former Texas star and last year’s NBA Rookie of the Year, Dixon is averaging 15.9 points and 7.1 rebounds for Hutchinson, which is 7-1. He is shooting 51 percent from the floor and 65 percent from the stripe. Yet he is currently serving an indefinite suspension for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

Also, here’s a thought provoking and well done follow-up to my Bobby Gonzalez column from the other day by Steve Politi of The Star-Ledger. Well done.

  • Steve Politi doesn’t do anything thought-provoking, only hatchet jobs. To use him to defend your knee-jerk blog entry the other day is really making matters worse.
