One of the hottest names still on the board in the 2012 Class is Jordan Dickerson, a 7-foot center from Alexandria, Va., who is now fully qualified after doing a postgraduate year at IMG Academies.
Darrell Crawford, Dickerson’s uncle, told SNY.tv Wednesday that his nephew is planning visits to Providence, South Carolina, Auburn and possibly St. John’s.
Florida State and South Florida are among the schools also in the mix.
“We’re going to do Providence first Monday,” Crawford said. “And then we’re going to set something up for South Carolina probably that Sunday [June 3]. I need to call [South Carolina coach] Frank [Martin] back.”
After that, Crawford said, will come visits to Auburn and possibly St. John’s.
Ironically, both Providence and Auburn missed out on 6-foot-8 Orlando Sanchez, when he chose the Johnnies over both schools, as first reported by SNY.tv.
“We might even do St. John’s since we’re up here,” Crawford said. “They just came aboard.”
The Johnnies have a five-man recruiting class of Sanchez, JaKarr Sampson, Marco Bourgault, Felix Balamou plus transfer Max Hooper from Harvard, but still have wiggle room to add another player.
Dickerson is an intriguing prospect who brings much needed height and shot-blocking abilities.
Playing for the Juice All-Stars at IS8, he went off for a triple-double of 13 points, 17 rebounds and 12 blocks last weekend.
“You can’t teach height and the kid is getting stronger and better every year,” Lincoln High coach Tiny Morton, who coached Dickerson, told SNY.tv.
Crawford said South Florida and Florida State are also in the mix and described South Florida as being on Dickerson’s “radar.”
For now, though, he will focus on three visits to Providence, South Carolina and Auburn.
“We’ll at least do these three visits before we decide,” he said.
