Florida’s Donovan to Coach Harrell in USA Basketball

Billy Donovan is sitting in a pretty unique position vis-a-vis uncommitted 2012 power forward Montrezl Harrell.

Donovan will coach the 6-foot-8 Hargrave Military Academy forward at the USA U18 National Team Training camp June 5-12 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“I’m ready to play for the USA Team,” Harrell, the former Virginia Tech signee, told SNY.tv by text. “I’m just happy to have been nominated for the team and get a chance to show what I have.”

The Rivals No. 20 power forward in the Class of 2012, he will be joined at U18 training camp by a loaded group that includes Jarnell Stokes of Tennessee, Syracuse-bound Jerami Grant, Duke signee Rasheed Sulaimon, Pitt signee James Robinson and 2013 stars Julius Randle, Troy Williams and Andrew and Aaron Harrison.

Gonzaga coach Mark Few and VCU coach Shaka Smart will assist Donovan with the team.

Prior to Team USA trials, Harrell will visit Louisville May 31-June 2.

That is the only visit he currently has set up.

He said Tuesday by text he’s also considering Florida, Cincinnati, Alabama, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and “some more.”

Harrell received his release from Virginia Tech earlier this week following the firing of Seth Greenberg.
