Seton Hall Stuns No. 19 USC

Playing with just seven scholarship players, Seton Hall stunned No. 19 USC, 63-61, Thursday in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Jeremy Hazell paced Seton Hall with 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting, Eugene Harvey added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and John Garcia tallied 11 and a game-high 18 rebounds.

Harvey made a free throw with five seconds remaining and USC’s Daniel Hackett missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to seal the win for Seton Hall.

“Our kids showed so much heart, courage and determination,” Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez told WABC 770-AM.

Taj Gibson led USC (2-1) with 19 points and Dwight Lewis added 12.

The Pirates (3-0) were without Robert “Stix” Mitchell, serving a two-game suspension for an incident that occurred last year.

“Our kids are in great condition,” Gonzalez said. “We thought we could wear down their legs.”

Seton Hall will meet John Calipari’s Memphis squad on Friday at 7 o’clock on ESPNU. No. 12 Memphis beat UT-Chattanooga, 83-71, behind 19 points from Doneal Mack and 18 points and 8 rebounds from Robert Dozier.
