Florida’s Rosario Invited to Puerto Rican National Team

Florida guard Mike Rosario of Jersey City, N.J., is among those American college players invited to try out for the Puerto Rico Senior National Team.

Jorge Brian Diaz of Nebraska, Kevin Young of Kansas and Chris Gaston of Fordham were also invited beginning May 14.

“We worked really hard to get Mike this opportunity,” Todd Washington, founder of the Puerto Rico Playmakers, told SNY.tv. “This is a huge year for Mike. It’s his last year at Florida and his turn to lead the team. Coach [Billy] Donovan was incredibly supportive of Mike coming down to Puerto Rico. He knew how important this was to Mike and his family. Mike is in Jersey City working out twice a day and doing everything he can to get in the best shape of his career.”

In his first year at Florida after transferring from Rutgers, the former McDonald’s All-American from St. Anthony averaged 6.6 points and 1.4 rebounds while playing behind guards Erving Walker, Bradley Beal and Kenny Boynton.
