Because he is a talented point guard with the potential to help lead a team to the NCAA Tournament, Josiah Turner will likely land somewhere next season.
Some college coach somewhere will take a chance on the former Arizona guard because he has the ability to help win games.
Heck, before news of his arrest this past week on DUI suspicion was reported Sunday by Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star, schools were lining up to land Turner.
Turner, 19, was supposed to visit St. John’s this past weekend and Iona, Missouri and other schools were involved despite the fact that Arizona head coach Sean Miller twice suspended Turner last season for unspecified violations of team rules.
“I am disappointed in Josiah for his actions,” Miller said in a statement when announcing Turner’s indefinite suspension prior to the NIT.
“Unfortunately this suspension comes at a time of great excitement and opportunity for our team. However, the standards of our program will not be compromised under any circumstances. Hopefully, Josiah will learn a valuable lesson from this experience.”
Apparently, he did not.
During a week when he could have visited St. John’s and potentially become the future point guard of Steve Lavin’s team, Turner obviously made some very questionable decisions and got arrested by campus police instead.
So instead of transferring to St. John’s during a time when there is renewed excitement over Lavin’s recruiting skills and future teams, Turner will now likely have to turn elsewhere.
But rest assured, because he’s talented and can help win games, somebody somewhere will roll the dice and take him.

If true, it’s very impressive of Miller to let him go and allow the team to enjoy the success it did on the court this season. Win win for the 3rd place recruiting champions of 2012!

It really is a shame because the kid has mad skills. If he can’t make it under Coach Miller I seriously doubt there is any other coach out there who is going to get through to him. Only way he will make it is with a coach that is going to turn a blind eye and that won’t help JT in any way. Hope he doesn’t fall through the cracks and fade away…

He’ll be fine, probably the best thing that could happen to him is to get away from that career-destroyer.
