Dylan Ennis to Villanova

Former Rice point guard Dylan Ennis has committed to Villanova over Cincinnati.

“I’m officially a Villanova Wildcat!!!” he Tweeted.

The 6-foot-2, 182-pound native of Brampton, Ontario must sit out next season and will then have three years of eligibility remaining.

“There’s opportunity there in regards to Jay Wright and the guards,” his father, Tony McIntyre, told SNY.tv by phone. “His ability to walk in and play a major role right off the bat.

“Going into that 2013 class with what they have, he feels that was the best spot for him from a developmental standpoint and his ability to fit in with the coaching staff.”

Ennis, the older brother of St. Benedict’s Prep junior point guard Tyler Ennis, was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team after he set a freshman record for assists (144) while averaging 8.5 points to go along with 37 steals and 21 blocks.

Villanova loses Maalik Wayns but still has freshman point guard Tyrone Johnson and incoming guard Ryan Arcidiacono. The Wildcats are also in the hunt for former Wake Forest guard Tony Chennault.

“It was a tough decision,” McIntyre said. “Both [Villanova and Cincinnati] are great programs and both offer great situations for Dylan but Villanova is where he thought he would be comfortable.”
