Arizona, Kansas and Kentucky are among the schools pursuing Xavier guard Mark Lyons, according to Brewster (N.H.) Academy coach Jason Smith.
“Brewster alum Mark Lyons ’08 to graduate from #Xavier this spring and transfer to another #NCAA D1 program for final year of eligibility,” Smith wrote on his Facebook page. “#Arizona #Kansas #Kentucky have all expressed serious interest.”
Smith told SNY.tv by text that no visits have yet been set.
“Still very preliminary interest from a few schools,” he said.
A 6-foot-1 native of Albany, Lyons averaged 15.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists last season at Xavier.
Later in the day, Xavier officially announced that Lyons had departed the program.
“After our end of the season meeting with Mark it became apparent that a change for both parties was the right thing moving forward,” Xavier coach Chris Mack said. “During our meeting expectations were outlined for his fifth and final season, areas in which I believe needed improvement. Mark did not recognize these expectations as being important and ultimately it was decided that a change of scenery would be in his best interest. I wish Mark well.”

We lost an entire 2 years worth of recruits when Lute retired; Gaddy, Whitey, the Wear twins and others, only Solomon Hill waited to see who the next coach would be and recommited.
The results are far more than any Arizona fan expected, see 2010-11 elite 8.
This coming season may be a break out year if/when Lyons commits, if not next year will be THE year we return full force.
Our main malfunctions have been no elite level PG and 2 fairly worthless bigs in KReal and Tree.
