Arizona’s Turner to Transfer

For the second straight year, an Arizona point guard will transfer.

One year after Momo Jones left for Iona, freshman Josiah Turner is also departing.

Turner, a 6-foot-3, 192-pound guard from Sacramento, Calif., averaged 6.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in 29 appearances this year. He posted career-high totals of 15 points on Feb. 23 vs. USC and seven assists against Utah (Feb. 11).

In March, he was suspended indefinitely from the team due to a violation of team rules.

“I learned a lot in my year at Arizona and would like to thank my coaches, teammates and the fans for all of their support,” said Turner.

In his one season in Tucson, Turner made 17 starts and scored in double figures five times and passed out five or more assists on three occasions.

“Josiah made a great deal of progress as a student-athlete in his year with us,” said Arizona head coach Sean Miller.  “He will finish this semester and leave in good academic standing.  All of us at Arizona wish him well in his future.”

Turner initially picked Arizona over UCLA, Louisville and Kansas.

  • I guess you spoke too soon BJ. I kinda figured that he would transfer, but wanted an opinion from a Zona fan. Good luck to the kid wherever he ends up.

  • ThIs sux, just read other day he was returning.
Makes no sense 4 him to sit out whole year. Who knows maybe KU can land him.

  • Hey blow job, scratch Turner from your Dream. LOL Ever hear of Karma? Kansas’ past season proves they don’t need people like Turner to be successful.

  • Don’t worry Josiah, im sure PayPal cal will be calling for damaged goods.

  • If Self wants him, no complaints from this guy.

  • Kungpao, would rather have Adams from Rainier Beach. Kid has crazy game and a killer cross-over.

  • You’d probably rather have crack cocaine compared to what I ate for dinner too.

Rio sounds sweet, if he makes it on campus in the Fall/Summer, but he isn’t the talent that JT is.

  • You don’t want a cancer like JT in the locker room. He obviously can’t give up one addiction for the other.

  • if youre talking about Anrio Adams, isnt he only a 3 star? is he gonna get serious playing time?

  • Yes, Anrio…I live near Seattle. Have watched him play and he is better than a 3 star. I don’t expect much from him at first, but he will buy into Self’s system and develop quickly. Johnson, Tharpe, Adams and we are set at PG. Adams elevates high and has a high release with a smooth stroke. Bill Self is best at spotting promising young talent, while everyone is too busy searching for the next big thing in 5 stars.

  • Hey uOFa Blow Job, your Dream is dwindling away. Did you break a mirror or something? LOL I think the UCLA Train is scaring all the wildcat players out of the pac 12, because they know its back to the NIT. Once again, I feel bad for Kaleb.

Kyryl Natyazhko announced Wednesday that he will sign with an agent in order to pursue professional opportunities in Europe.

  • (Homer Simpson voice)- Ummmm Kung pao chicken.

    (Rick James voice)- Ummmmm Cocaine.

  • Fearthephog: I love your passion man, but your anti-Zona rant has got to stop! Don’t be a mirror of that douche jesse the wildcat or that douche over PGU “ACE”!

With that said, Turner is an interesting situation. It sounds like he definitely has issues, but I also believe kids get second chances.

If it comes down to Turner possibly transferring to Kansas or getting a commitment from Allerik Freeman, I would probably choose Freeman!

I just don’t want Turner possibly turning Freeman away should Turner have the desire and or Self have the desire to bring him to Kansas.

Obviously Miller needs to find himself a pass first type of Point Guard to fit his personality and coaching dynamic.

  • Arizona landed TJ mconnell yesterday but can’t play until 13/14
Looks like expanded roll 4 Gabe York.
