BOSTON — Seton Hall hopes to add another point guard to its 2012 recruiting class and is focusing on 6-foot Trivante Bloodman of Olney (Ill.) Central College.
“He’s doing the official this weekend to Seton Hall,” Olney assistant Dan Matic told SNY.tv by phone. “He gets there tomorrow [Sunday].”
Bloodman, a Manhattan native, will also visit Cleveland State (April 14-16) and Texas Tech (22-24).
Bloodman averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals this year at Olney and won a slew of postseason awards. He was named Freshman of the Year in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and Region 24. He came in second for Region 24 Player of the Year. He was first-team All-Conference and All-Region. And he is a finalist for All-American honors, which will be announced next week.
Bloodman was a qualifier out of high school and will have three years of eligibility once he picks a school.
Seton Hall needs a point guard to replace the graduating Jordan Theodore. They have Tom Maayan of the Canarias Basketball Academy, but he has a torn ACL and his future may be somewhat cloudy.
“I know they’re actively looking for a point guard,” Matic said. “He could come in and play minutes at the point guard spot [at Seton Hall].
“He’s definitely considering it seriously. It would give him a chance to go home and play in the Big East and play in front of his family. Every kid dreams of playing in the Big East, being a New York kid.”
Matic said St. John’s had been interested but he hadn’t heard from them recently.
“If we don’t hear anything we’re going to keep moving,” he said. “We’re not going to wait around for St. John’s.”
Seton Hall is also involved with Philly Constitution guard Daiquan Walker.
Head coach Kevin Willard watched Friday night when Walker had 22 points as Constitution won the PIAA Class A final against Lincoln Park Charter.
Former Villanova commit Savon Goodman had 27 in that game for Constitution.
Walker may also visit Seton Hall soon.
