Michael Snaer, a 6-foot-4 senior shooting guard from Rancho Verde High in Moreno Valley, Calif., announced his school on Friday. And it wasn’t Kansas.
Snaer announced on ESPNU that he will play for Florida State.
“I really like (FSU coach) Leonard Hamilton,” Snaer said on air. “He’s a really good coach, and I like the way he interacts with all his players,” Snaer told ESPNU. “They have a really good trust system going on, and he’s a really good coach. I like the atmosphere up there, and I like being around all the players and all the coaches.”
This means Kansas is still hunting for a wing player among a group that includes Xavier Henry, Dominic Cheek and Lance Stephenson, all of whom have said they will wait until the spring to commit.
Cheek, of St. Anthony in Jersey City, point guard John Wall of Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God and Perry Ellis, a 6-8 freshman small forward from Wichita (KS) Wichita Heights, are all visiting Memphis this weekend. Cheek and Wall have already tripped to Kansas.
“Dom’s in the air on his way to Memphis right now,” Cheek’s AAU coach, Jerome Smart, wrote Friday evening in a text message.
The 6-foot-5 Cheek has already visited Kansas and Villanova and still plans to trip to Pitt and Rutgers.
The 6-4 Wall, the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2009, has visited Kansas officially and N.C. State unofficially. He’s also considering Baylor, Oregon and Miami.
“I don’t feel rushed,” Wall told USA Today. “Now, (college coaches) understand when I said I was going to wait until the spring to make my decision. They’ll just keep recruiting me as hard as they can.”
