Allerik Freeman, the Rivals No. 11 shooting guard in the Class of 2013, has just trimmed his list to two schools, his coach told SNY.tv Thursday.
“He said he had cut it to Kansas and Villanova, which is not shocking,” Charlotte (N.C.) Olympic coach Ty Baumgardner said by phone.
“He’s liked those schools all along and how they use their guards and how they play.”
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Freeman had previously considered Kansas State, Texas, Georgetown, Florida, Ohio State, North Carolina and South Carolina, among others.
Freeman is a natural off guard who averaged 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists this season, but Baumgardner said they would work on his point guard skills to make him a true combo.
“Right now he’s got a scorer’s mentality and can shoot it a little bit,” he said. “He’s really trying to work on his ball-handling and ability to run the point and make decisions and read defenses.
“We can get him prepared to be a good big-time combo guard.”
Freeman took unofficials to both Kansas and Villanova in the fall.
As of now, he could wait to take officials this fall or he could pull the trigger before then.
“He could wake up tomorrow and say, ‘I’m committing,'” Baumgardner said.
“He may play it out and take officials to both schools in the fall. That’s probably what I’m guessing he will do so his dad can go visit the schools.”
