‘Bazz Sets Kansas Official

Shabazz Muhammad, the top uncommitted wing player in the Class of 2012, has set his official visit for Kansas.

The 6-foot-6 Muhammad will visit Kansas the weekend of Feb. 25 for the Missouri game, his father told SNY.tv.

“Coach [Bill] Self was out today for practice,” Ron Holmes told SNY.tv by text. “‘Bazz is going to visit Missouri game [for] official.”

He added: “Coach Self has always been a great coach and heads a great program. They have been recruiting Shabazz since he was a freshman. We’re looking forward to seeing the atmosphere in Lawrence for a big game.”

Kansas will also host 6-8 Brewster (N.H.) Academy forward JaKarr Sampson that weekend. Sampson is a former St. John’s commit.

Louisville coach Rick Pitino said earlier this year that Phog Allen Fieldhouse was the most “overpowering” building in college basketball.

Muhammad still plans to take an official to Duke March 3 for the North Carolina game, his father confirmed. That was first reported by SNY.tv.

Muhammad is mulling Duke, Kansas, UCLA, UNLV, Arizona and Kentucky and has said he expects to announce in April.

“I don’t think I’m that close at all,” Muhammad told ESPNU after he was named a McDonald’s All-American.

“I really haven’t been looking at it. Just been working on this season for high school, but when I get down to it it’s going to be really stressful for me. But I’m just going to talk to my family and talk it over with them.”

  • Shabazz will love the visit to Allen Field House, There’s not place like Kansas!

  • He could legitimately go to any of these six schools. At the end if the day my guess is he hooks up with Kyle Anderson and Tony Parker.

  • At ucla

Would Anderson and Muhammed work together? I thought both were ball-dominant, but IDK. As a KU fan, I’m glad to hear he’s visiting, and Self picked the ideal time to show Shabazz what kind of atmosphere he’d be joining.

  • won’t be holding my breath that he signs with the hawks. one great sign is visiting during the midoo game. there is not a louder venue for any other game then ku mu in lawrence.

  • sounds like he is going to check out some good games. i dont blame him.

  • Allen Fieldhouse is by far the best venue for college basketball, if not for any sport. He’ll like the visit. I just hope it’s enough to make him want to come to KU. I’ve never thought he considered KU in his top 3 though.

I would never count out Bill Self, for a “down” year where KU’s team is as thin as it’s ever been, they’re doing great, and have a legitimate shot of being a number 1 seed for the 5th time in 6 years (3 in a row).

  • danny wouldn’t have to “coach this kid up” huh UOFA? i know he’s a wing, but another reason your knowledge is extremely limited. in manning’s tenure, please name 1 big that hasn’t produce at some point in their career under manning? every big since danny has been there has gone to the league except 1, sasha kaun, who is making great money playing professionally in russia. withey seems to be “coached up” by danny huh U?

  • Nice random post loser.

  • Btw good for Jeff withey, I’m one of the few UofA fans that doesn’t hold a grudge against him. The way I see it he committed to play for Lute and when he retired and Kevin oneil took over it was a no brainer for a freshman who never played a game to transfer. He was a block short of a triple double again and is starting to make KU a serious title contender in my opinion. And honestly two weeks ago I thought they had no real chance.

  • well U great reply. you always say danny will “coach them up.” looks as if you have nothing to say though now except nice post loser regarding big’s at ku and danny. move along

  • LOL, 2 weeks ago KU had no shot in BJ’s mind, however he thought the PAC would get 4 teams in the (NCAA) tourney. Talk about a homer!

  • i will give U some credit for being passionate about his team and not running and hiding like the rest of that PRESEASON bear down the west is rising trash coming from ua fans. how ku was on the way down. the pac-12 deal with espn….funny haven’t seen much. where did the ua fan’s venture off to?

  • uconn isn’t playing well as of late either, but i must say other than UofA the Zona fans have disappeared off this blog. i do miss “sijessie wildcat’s” rants though..

  • Zona fans have not disappeared! I have read zagsblog and the posts for years, but have never felt compelled to post. But here I am now… I do have to say — not all zona fans are trash. Many of us respect college basketball for the great sport that it is, and as a result, have a huge respect for all of the great programs out there. I can’t remember the exact season, but I remember driving to Allen Field House to watch Arizona play KU (going to say 2003???). At any rate, it was one of the most amazing sporting events I have ever been a part of — it IS an amazing place to play! If I were an upcoming baller in high school — I would be a fool to not consider KU, or any of the other great programs out there.

And everyone in this blog is right — the pac-12 is down right now, actually, for the past couple of years. But I think we will be back, and competitive in the next couple of years. As for Zona, we are honestly still in rebuilding mode. Arizonans went crazy with the elite 8 performance, which, tweaked our future expectations. I still think we are a year, or two, away from making significant impact. Hats off to KU and Jeff Withey — they are playing really well right now. To transfer schools and start all over again is tough. You have to love seeing a player, like Jeff, doing well after transferring.

  • KU got lucky when Lute retired and I am really happy that he is doing great, he seems to be a nice kid. Shabazz, in my opinion will end up playing for UCLA.

  • Good stuff zona, a respectable opinion for sure. I poke fun at 85% of anything ua on here because ever since I stsrted following this site, I see ua fan’s bashing anything related ku. Jalon, you good sir have a right to your opinion but, ku being lucky lute retired? Do some research good friend and take notice that ted owens left, then Larry, then ol Roy. Ku doesn’t fall off because of 1 coach and say oh your lucky. Try again friend

  • Mikemiller13, I am a big Kansas fan and I really like Withey, he was going to play for Arizona because of Lute, he retired and that’s why he’s a Jayhawk. He is going to be monster next year!

  • Sorry bud, my apologies. Had you out as a ua fan knocking ku.

  • Screaming Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!! It seems whenever Zags posts something about KU related, it gets the most comments interesting.

  • Something lost in all this: If Jakarr looks to commit on the spot, does Self take the verbal, or does he stall and keep pressing Shabazz?

  • LS, he takes it and if SM wants in they make room.

  • Tony Parker, Christ Walker and Brannen Greene will also visit the Kansas for the Mizzou game!!!
