Latest on Durand Scott, John Wall

Today is the first day of the NCAA early signing period and Rice guard Durand Scott is not expected to make an announcement on this day.

The 6-foot-4 Scott previously said he was down to Miami, UConn and Pitt, but his former teammate, UConn freshman guard Kemba Walker, says he will choose between Miami and UConn.

A source close to the situation said Scott will announce “sometime during the early signing period.”

Meantime, John Wall of Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God did not visit Duke Monday or Tuesday nights for the Blue Devils victories in the Coaches vs. Cancer event. Duke beat Georgia Southern Tuesday night behind 19 points from sophomore forward Kyle Singler.

“I couldn’t go, it’s a dead period,” Wall wrote in a text message.

The No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2009 according to Rivals, Wall has made an official visit to Kansas and an unofficial to N.C. State. He is slated to visit Memphis Nov. 14, the same weekend that St. Anthony will Dominic Cheek is scheduled to trip there.

Wall is considering Duke, Baylor, Kansas, Memphis, N.C. State, Miami and Oregon and will decide in the late period.

“I don’t feel rushed,” Wall told USA Today. “Now, (college coaches) understand when I said I was going to wait until the spring to make my decision. They’ll just keep recruiting me as hard as they can.”
