Devonta Pollard to Visit Texas This Weekend

Devonta Pollard, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Porterville (Miss.) Kemper County, will visit Texas this weekend, according to his AAU coach, Jeff Andrews of the Southern Phenoms.

Texas hosts Kansas Saturday afternoon in a key Big 12 battle.

“He’s planning on taking a visit to Texas this weekend,” Andrews said by phone.

The Rivals No. 2 small forward in the Class of 2012, Pollard is also considering Kentucky, Mississippi State, Alabama, Marquette and Georgetown, Andrews said.

“I think it’s just all open,” he said of Pollard’s recruitment.

As for Kentucky, Andrews said, “They’ve been in contact. They contacted me several times this month.

“We’re planning on trying to get him up to Kentucky pretty soon.”

Kentucky is involved with several high-profile late signees, including Shabazz Muhammad, Anthony Bennett and Amile Jefferson.

An athletic 6-7 wing, Pollard runs a 4.2 40-yard dash and has a high ceiling going forward.

“He’s very athletic, can jump out the gym,” Andrews said. “He can run. I think he can be dominant.”

Asked if Pollard will be qualified, Andrews said, “Yes, he will be qualified.”

No decision until the springtime, though.

“Probably after basketball season,” Andrews said.
