Carr Talks Seton Hall Commitment

**PROGRAMMING NOTE: Seton Hall commit Aquille Carr and St. John’s transfer Jamal Branch will be my guests Wednesday on The Big East Report on SNY.tv. Check back here for the video interviews.**

After announcing via Twitter that he is headed to Seton Hall in 2013, Baltimore Patterson point guard Aquille Carr discussed his commitment Tuesday with the Baltimore Sun.

“It feels great knowing that I had a top school looking at me,” Carr, the 2011 Baltimore Sun All-Metro boys basketball Player of the Year, told the paper. “I feel good being able to commit to the school.”

He added: “I just figured that it was about time to pick a school, narrow it down to the school that’s right for me.”

Carr was supposed to hold a press conference Thursday but has instead cancelled it. He will appear via phone on SNY.tv Wednesday.

Known as “The Crime Stopper,” the 5-foot-7 Carr is averaging 22 points and 5.2 assists.

He also considered Baylor, Maryland, Memphis, South Florida and Towson, according to the Sun.

“The relationships Aquille developed with the coaches was big in the thought process and he’s also excited about having a coach that also was a former guard,” Patterson coach Harry Martin told the paper. “Watching their games, Seton Hall is a team on the rise and we liked the kind of pace they played and they give their guards a lot of freedom.”

The Pirates are ranked No. 24 in the nation, their first national ranking since January 2001.

Their success has enabled them to land Carr and also do well with other players, as discussed in this column from Monday.

While Carr figures to be the floor general after 2013, Seton Hall still must find a point for 2012 after Jordan Theodore graduates.

“I’m just going to come in and earn my spot to earn playing time,” Carr said, “and I’m going to turn the program around.”
