Huggins Traveling With Bodyguard

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins is traveling with a bodyguard after he was heckled by a fan a week ago in Las Vegas.

OK, C.J. Culliton is not being called a “bodyguard,” but rather a “security” person.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a bodyguard. He’s the head of our security,” Bryan Messerly, the school’s sports information director, told the Charleston Gazette. “I think it’s just to have someone here and if he sees something that could get out of control he can talk to the appropriate security people [at the venue].”

According to the Gazette, Culliton — who is in charge of Contemporary Services Corporation’s West Virginia operations and made the trip to Newark for West Virginia’s 67-48 loss to Seton Hall — “shadows Huggins before, during and after games.”

The new security is in effect after Huggins was heckled so badly in Las Vegas last week that he had to be restrained from going after a man in the stands.

“We’re not the only school in the Big East that travels with someone,” Messerly said. “Georgetown has for years and I think Louisville does and several other schools.”

  • Huggy is a big guy with a bad temper. Not sure you want to heckle him.

Security is a good idea, though. Aside from the bad publicity that would arise from pummeling a fan, Huggy has a bad ticker and needs to stay relatively calm.
