Whiteside to Marshall

Hassan Whiteside, a 6-foot-11, 210-pound center from The Patterson (N.C.) School, committed to Marshall.

He chose that school over Kentucky, N.C. State, UConn and Charlotte. Seton Hall also offered him.

“I think it’s a great fit for him,” Patterson coach Chris Chaney said by phone. “The whole staff of Marshall did an excellent job, one of the better jobs I’ve ever seen somebody do. He just felt really comfortable and the potential for him is really big. And for a place like Marshall where coach [Donnie] Jones developed players like him at Florida, thats a big draw.

“He lacks a lot of experience now, so he’s trying to learn how to play hard all the time, to play the right way. On the other side, his potential is really, really high. I think he can be a pro.”

The story was first reported by Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com.
