Willie Cauley to Kentucky (UPDATED)

Willie Cauley, the No. 6 center in the Class of 2012, has become the second player to commit to Kentucky in this recruiting class.

The 7-foot Cauley out of Olathe (Kansas) Northwest chose the Wildcats over Alabama, Florida and Kansas State.

“I just think that with the way they spread the floor and the way that they dribble-drive off the post or away from the post and don’t put their posts straight in the paint with their back to the basket is something that probably got him thinking a little bit about them,” Olathe head coach Mike Grove told SNY.tv by phone Monday morning.

“And their storied tradition. The tradition and history that Coach Cal has with his players as far as getting them prepared for the next level, the NBA level, I think those are the things that probably lured him or got him leaning towards Kentucky.”

Cauley joins 6-5 shooting guard Archie Goodwin in John Calipari’s 2012 recruiting class. Calipari watched Cauley play in a football game Friday night at his school.

Grove said Cauley has a huge upside, but was still developing his game.

“The player that he’ll be is a question mark,” Grove told SNY.tv. “His upside is through the roof. He has unbelievable feet. He has unbelievable hands. He’s got long length. He’s got great athleticism and great timing.

“What he has to develop is exactly what his offensive skillset will be. He’s a guy that needs to continue to develop on the perimeter a little bit and on the post. He’s kind of an in-between as far as what he is, as far as is he a post player or is he a perimeter player. I would say right now he’s not either one completely, but he’s an unbelievable athlete.”

The early signing period begins Nov. 9.

  • solid pick up. welcome to BBN!!!

  • Cauley, much like current Wildcat Anthony Davis, will need to pack on a little more muscle in order to prepare him for the speed and strength of college basketball as opposed to that of high school. All in all though, the Cats picked up a solid big man that will work aside Kyle Wiltjer (and probably Chris Walker) over the next few years.

  • So basically I’ve pointed you to the errors of your post. You then proceeded to correct your errors, but then delete my post? Yeah, I’m about done with this blog.
