Kilpatrick to St. John’s?

Seankilpatrick4_30200Sean Kilpatrick is on the verge of committing to St. John’s, although “nothing is definite,” White Plains coach Spencer Mayfield said.

Kilpatrick, a 6-foot-3 senior shooting guard from White Plains, is awaiting approval from his mother on the decision.

“It’s been in discussion and we are still in the process of choosing,” Gerard Jones, Kilpatrick’s advisor and the older brother of West Virginia recruit Kevin Jones, said in an email message.

“It’s pretty close, not yet,” Mayfield said Wednesday by phone. “We’re actually in the process of talking to his mother and (St. John’s) Coach (Norm Roberts) is trying to reach out to his mother today. I was really waiting to hear from his mother.”

Kilpatrick dropped 44 points in a game at the Big Apple Classic this year and averaged 25 points and 7 rebounds on the season. He earlier said St. John’s was his top choice.

“Yes, it is (my favorite),” he said last month at the Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden. “I think that would be a comfortable place for me.”

Kilpatrick will likely attend prep school at South Kent (Conn.)

“It looks like he’ll be going to prep school, probably South Kent,” Mayfield said. “Hopefully it all works out.”

“He could be a very good player,” the coach added earlier this season. “He’s very good in the open floor. He’s an excellent finisher and can create his own shot. He’s improved his outside shooting.”
