Brandon Watkins to West Virginia

Brandon Watkins, a 6-foot-10 2013 power forward from Decatur (Ga.) Grady, has verbally committed to West Virginia.

“A lot of people were telling me it was too early, but I didn’t want to wait any longer,” Watkins told MetroNewsRecruiting. “I just wanted to get it over with because I knew I was going to be here at the end.”

Watkins is the nephew of former West Virginia standout Warren Baker, who will be inducted this weekend into the West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

“It was the family ties and also the coaching staff and the atmosphere out here and the fans. I just want to be surrounded by that,” Watkins told MetroNews. “[There were places] I liked, but nothing could compare to West Virginia so I just wanted to stick here.”

A second-team All-Metro Atlanta and Class AAA All-State selection, Watkins joins Nate Adrian, a 6-8 power forward, in the Mounties’ 2013 class.
