Arizona’s Kevin Parrom Stable After Shooting

Arizona junior wing Kevin Parrom is in stable condition after being shot early Saturday morning in The Bronx in an apparent dispute over a woman.

Parrom was at home visiting his sick mother.

“It happened at approximately 1:05 Saturday at 1200 Woodycrest Avenue,” a New York Police Department spokesperson who requested anonymity told SNY.tv by phone. “He was shot one time in the right leg. He was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.

“He was with a woman and two people came to that location and knocked on the door. They followed him into a bedroom and shot him with a 22-caliber handgun. No one else was in the apartment when he was shot.”

No arrests were made; the investigation is ongoing.

“I have been in contact with Kevin and his family throughout the weekend and look forward to his return to Tucson and being back in class this week,” Arizona coach Sean Miller said in a statement. “Our focus is on Kevin’s health right now. Once we have more information, we’ll be able to address his potential return to team activities.”

“We are aware that Kevin Parrom went home this weekend to visit his mother, who is in the hospital,” Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne said. “While in New York City, he was the victim of a shooting. Rest assured, Kevin’s well being is our primary concern.”

Parrom, who starred at St. Raymond’s in The Bronx and South Kent (Conn.), did not immediately respond to a text message.

A second source with knowledge of the incident said the woman’s jealous boyfriend or ex-boyfriend was behind the shooting.

“[Parrom] had a girl visiting him,” the second source said. “The girl’s jealous boyfriend or ex-boyfriend shows up at Kevin’s house. He brings a dude with him. The dude that’s with him has a gun.

“Somehow the guys get in the house, words are exchanged. One of the guys pulls out a gun. Kevin grabs the gun, they wrestle for the gun. The guy pulls the trigger, which grazes [Parrom] in the hand. The shooter pulls back and the shot grazes [Parrom] in the leg.”

The second source added that Parrom would be “OK.”

Gary Charles, Parrom’s AAU coach with the New York Panthers, told SNY.tv he spoke briefly with Parrom Sunday and that Parrom told him, “I’m good. I’m walking.”

Former Arizona guard Nic Wise tweeted, “Oh and y’all pray for My man Kevin Parrom too. He going thru it.”

Parrom averaged 7.6 points and 3.4 rebounds last season for the Wildcats, who reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

  • Too bad it didn’t happen in Arizona. Then he could have transfered back home without penalty due to safety concerns.

  • LS – Your an a$$hole. Decent humans and basketball fans are just elated that he is alive, and you are looking for an angle for him to transfer to a school near you. Pathetic.

Get well #13. AZ fans thoughts and prayers are with you and your mother. Hope to see you make a full recovery and back with the ‘Cats soon man.

  • This reads like a police report.

Glad to hear that the arrests have been made.

The mom does not need this kind of stress. Just like you need a hole in your leg. Wise up.

  • why was he even back in NYC this weekend..?

  • “We are aware that Kevin Parrom went home this weekend to visit his mother, who is in the hospital”

    – Maybe try reading the article first. It would take less time than posting.

  • ” Glad to hear that the arrests have been made.” – JW

Joke’s on me for actually believing you EVER know what you’re talking about. The NYC police have clarified this morning that the two individuals involved in the shooting remain at large.

BSing recruiting boards about UA prospects is one thing, making up your own facts about a shooting is deplorable. I read your statement last night, and went to bed thinking these two had been arrested. Show me one source/link that’s dated prior to 2:26am EST that validates your claim. You should be banned for this, smh.

  • What am I hearing… NYC has yet to make arrest.
Tell me this is not so….

Going on 48 hours and you can not find these two.

    Get on it, NYC.
