Kentucky Lands First 2012 Commit in Goodwin

Until this point, Kentucky hadn’t landed a single commit from the Class of 2012.

But that all changed late Tuesday when 6-foot-5 Arkansas shooting guard Archie Goodwin picked the Wildcats over Arkansas and Memphis.

“If you don’t know by now I’m a Wildcat!!!” he Tweeted.

Goodwin recently cut Kansas and UConn from his list, leaving Arkansas, Memphis and Kentucky.

“As far as Kentucky, another great program, a winning program,” Goodwin told SNY.tv earlier this month. “Has a great coach [John Calipari], and another great staff behind him. Consistently puts guards in the league and other players as well. In the NCAA Tournament, in the last Elite 8 or so.”

During that interview, Goodwin said he hoped he wouldn’t face too much heat from in-state Arkansas fans if he picked another school.

“I feel like it’s going to be a lot of stuff on Twitter said about me that’s not going to be too pretty,” he said. “There’s just going to be a lot of disappointment in the faces because I didn’t go here. But Arkansas is a lovely place. I feel I would never change where I from or anything like that. But if I don’t commit, obviously I saw an opportunity for me somewhere else so I would just hope that they would understand that and care about my personal interests, rather than what I can do for a program.”

Perry Ellis, a 6-8 forward from Wichita Heights, will announce Wednesday, and is down to Kentucky, Kansas, Kansas State and Wichita State.

  • It is about time!! I would say it has to do with NBA Lockout and calipari coaching Inter-national team. Lord knows if new CBA Agreement requires 2 years min. of college, a lot of players at uk would flunk out and head over seas.

  • HAHA Nice fail, what does that have to do with uk basketball academics? You and I both know they take basket weaving and moonshining courses and quit going to classes after their first semester. Why do you think cal pushes the idiots out the door to the draft? Speak on the Truth son!! LOL
