Kyle Anderson Chats With Baron Davis on SJU Visit

Kyle Anderson encountered a special visitor on his unofficial visit to St. John’s Wednesday.

Former UCLA and current Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Baron Davis just happened to be on campus for Anderson’s visit.

The 6-foot-8 Anderson said by text he got the chance to speak with Davis, who played for Johnnies coach Steve Lavin at UCLA.

“It was good,” said Anderson, who made the trip to Queens with his mother, Suzanne, and two brothers, Duanne and Jamar. “Baron Davis was there. It was a productive visit.”

Anderson also met with the whole St. John’s staff, talked with school president Rev. Donald J. Harrington and hung out with the team.

Many observers feel that St. John’s has a strong chance to land Anderson, the top point guard in the country according to Rivals.com.

“It’s close to home,” Anderson said recently of St. John’s. “Coach Lavin is a great coach so I’ll be playing for a great staff. The incoming freshmen are coming in this year that will be sophomores in the Big East.”

St. John’s has a loaded freshmen class, including many talented wings and off guards who will be sophomores when, and if, Anderson chooses the Johnnies.

“With St. John’s, the roster’s terrific,” Naismith Hall of Fame St. Anthony coach Bob Hurley said. “So he can go in there and play with players, their wings. Their guys at the 2, 3, 4 are really talented. To have finishers all around him, guys would be able to finish all the passes that he makes and he could really settle in there and just try to stir the drink.”

Anderson is now done with his unofficials and will take his last trip, an official to Florida Sept. 16-17.

He is also considering UCLA, Seton Hall and Georgetown and is expected to announce Sept. 20.
