Archie Goodwin Trims List

NEW YORK — Archie Goodwin is slowly winnowing his list.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Little Rock, Ark., is now considering eight schools after he had initially trimmed it to 10.

During Friday’s practice for Saturday’s Franchise Classic in Harlem, Goodwin told SNY.tv he’s now looking at Arkansas, Baylor, Georgetown, Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis, Missouri and UConn.

“I cut Florida [and] Louisville, and Missouri is still in there, so you could say it’s eight,” Goodwin, who scored a game-high 23 points Sunday to help Team USA Midwest win the Nike Global Challenge, said Friday afternoon. “I basically just cut Florida and Louisville.”

Goodwin previously said Arkansas and Kentucky would likely be among his final five.

Kentucky has yet to secure a pledge from a 2012 recruit, but a number of top players are considering the Wildcats, including Goodwin, Perry Ellis, Shabazz Muhammad, Brandon Ashley, Mitch McGary, Ricky Ledo, Kaleb Tarczewski, Andre Drummond and DaJuan Coleman.

If Kentucky were to land three or four of those guys, they would be in line for their fourth straight No. 1 recruiting class.

But Goodwin said he will not base his decision based on what others do.

“I’m not going to commit after anybody,” he said.

He added: “It just depends on if those guys are followers are not, or if they’re real cool with a guy who committed or if they play well with them, so it just depends on what goes on after that.”

As for his own plans, Goodwin may decide late.

“I’m going to take some visits this fall, probably take a couple in September if I can,” he said. “But as far as a decision, it will probably come late.”
