Archie Goodwin is busy playing at the Nike Global Challenge in Hillsboro, Ore., this weekend.
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard dropped game-high 23 points to lead Team USA Midwest to a 121-101 victory over USA West in the semifinals on Saturday. USA Midwest will meet Team Canada in Sunday’s 8 p.m. championship.
But when Goodwin returns home to Little Rock, Ark., he plans to get to work cutting his college list.
“I have 10 right now, but within the next week or two I’ll have my five to where I’ll take my visits,” he said by phone.
Goodwin’s list “in no particular order ” currently includes Arkansas, Baylor, Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis, Texas, UConn, Georgetown, Tennessee and Missouri.
Goodwin said Arkansas and Kentucky would “probably most definitely” be among his final five.
“But other than those two, the others are probably wide open,” he said. “But I’m still giving everybody a fair chance, no matter what.”
He said “Kentucky’s recruiting me very hard.”
“As a matter of fact, after our last game at Nationals, they called me just two minutes after the game,” he said. “Coach [John] Calipari and I talked to coach [Orlando] Antigua, too, but more times it’s Calipari.
“They’ve been very serious about me and telling me I’m a top priority for them.”
Goodwin has also heard recently from UConn, Arkansas, Baylor and Memphis.
Wherever he goes, the Rivals No. 3 shooting guard in the Class of 2012 said he plans to stand out.
“I think I’ll be a player that stands out at whatever school I go to just because of my work ethic, and how much I bring to the game,” he said. ”
