Report: Pearl to Interview with D-League’s Texas Legends

Former Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl will interview on Thursday to become the head coach of the Texas Legends, the NBA D-League affiliate of the world champion Dallas Mavericks.

“When the world champions call you have to listen,” Pearl told Andy Katz of ESPN. “Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson have been great and I’m looking forward to talking to them.”

Pearl would replace Nancy Lieberman, who has moved into the front office.

“The job is [Pearl’s] if he wants it,” a source told ESPN.com.

Pearl was fired by Tennessee in March after he accumulated NCAA violations.

The NCAA has yet to hand Pearl a show cause barring him from coaching in college, but right now it is clear that no college program will touch him.

Pearl had previously been linked to the D-League’s Maine Red Claws.
