UConn in Strong Position with Omar Calhoun

Two days after landing a verbal commitment from 2011 small forward DeAndre Daniels, UConn is in very strong position with 2012 shooting guard Omar Calhoun.

The 6-foot-5, 185-pound Christ the King junior took an unofficial to campus Thursday with his father and enjoyed it.

“We were able to spend some quality time with Coach [Jim] Calhoun and the rest of the coaching staff,” Omar Sr. said. “We met some of the players and they were real cool. We toured the campus. Overall it was a great visit. It’s definitely a place we will come back to.”

The No. 8 shooting guard in the Class of 2012 per Rivals, Omar Calhoun also lists North Carolina, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Villanova, West Virginia, Seton Hall, Maryland and Georgetown.

“Those are the guys we built the best relationship with,” Calhoun Sr. said.

As first reported here earlier Daniels said Jim Calhoun told him he would definitely return to coach for at least next season.

DeAndre said his plan was to spend two years on campus before a potential pro career, meaning he would play with whatever 2012 commits the Huskies pick up.
