Linda Gonzalez’s Grand Strategy to Get Bobby a Job

You have to hand it to Linda Gonzalez.

She sure has an interesting strategy for getting her brother, Bobby, another college basketball coaching gig.

Apparently that grand strategy involves A) indirectly implicating her brother in NCAA recruiting violations; and B) ripping nearly every major college basketball writer in the nation.

Because, you know, that’s the best way to go about getting back into a business from which you’ve been blackballed.

First she launched a massive blog post accusing former Manhattan assistant — and current head coach Steve Masiello — of offering furniture and jobs to recruits while working for Bobby at Manhattan.

When one of her Twitter followers let her know that she was thereby implicating her brother in the violations, she immediately edited that part out of her post.

Sources said Masiello wasn’t exactly worried about the unproven allegations anyway.

Now, in her latest tour de force, Linda has a post called “AMERICA’S TOP TEN WORST, LEAST CREDIBLE, MOST CONFLICTED SPORTSWRITERS.”

I’m not sure how I managed to escape this list, given my own stories over the years detailing Gonzo effing out everyone from me to the Dean of the Seton Hall Law School to Rick Pitino calling him “bitter, silly and adolescent” after Gonzo took an unprovoked shot at current Seton Hall coach Kevin WIllard.

In that interview with ESPNNew York.com, Gonzo said he hopes to get back into coaching at some point.

“I know I can still coach,” he said then. “I want to get back into the game.”

If Gonzo does hope to get back into coaching after getting fired and committing a shoplifting offense, you would think that to do so, he would want to lay low and stay out of the spotlight for a while.

So you have to wonder if having his sister openly rip every influential writer from Pete Thamel to Pat Forde to Lenny Robbins to Dick Weiss is really a good idea.

But hey, it may all be part of a grand strategy that is just simply beyond our grasp at the moment.
