Freshman guard Dion Waiters may not return to Syracuse next season, according to a report by Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com.
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim told Rothstein Saturday that Waiters’ return was “up in the air.”
“Sometimes change is good for everyone,” the coach added.
Waiters, who finished up at Burlington (N.J.) Life Center, averaged 6.6 points last season.
Incoming freshman guard Michael Carter-Williams, recruited by Mike Hopkins, could fill the void if Waiters doesn’t return.
“He’s a 6-5 point guard that does a little bit of everything,” Boeheim told Rothstein. “He’s really, really good.”

Marshall assistant Bill Barton will fill Pat Skerry’s slot on the Pittsburgh staff, per the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Barton is the former head coach at Notre Dame Prep, which produced incoming Pitt big man Khem Birch and features 2012 standouts Myles Davis and Ricky Ledo….Manhattan coach Steve Masiello is likely to name Manhattan assistant Scott Padgett and Matt Grady of The Hoop Group to his staff, sources said.
