McLeod Resigns From St. Benedict’s

After just one season as head coach of St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, Roshown McLeod has resigned.

“Today I submitted my resignation as head basketball coach at St. Benedict’s Prep in order to pursue other coaching opportunities,” McLeod said. “I am truly grateful to Father Edwin Leahy for allowing me to coach and work there this past year. It was a tremendous experience coaching at such a prestigious academic and athletic high school institution. I truly appreciate all of the support from the alumni and administration during this past season.  I wish the Gray Bees nothing but success as they move forward.”

The former St. Anthony and Duke standout took over for Dan Hurley, who turned St. Benedict’s into a national powerhouse during his nine-year tenure before taking the job at Wagner College.

St. Benedict’s finished 13-12 this season after going 20-1 a year ago.

McLeod struggled with turnover, with eight total players leaving this season alone.

“We’d like to thank Ro for his efforts over the last year,” Father Leahy said. “But it’s time for us to move on and evaluate the direction of our basketball program.”

Among the potential candidates to replace him are current St. Ben’s assistant Joe Sokolowicz, former St. Ben’s assistant and current Wagner Director of Basketball Operations Scott Smith and Wagner assistant and former St. Ben’s assistant Bashir Mason.
